The Contractor’s Registration Act requires that all home improvement contractors and subcontractors register with the N.J. Division of Consumer Affairs, and display their registration number starting with “HIC” on all their commercial vehicles. The program is designed to keep a registered list of contractors who sell or make home improvements in the state of New Jersey. Those who do not register may be subject to civil penalties and possibly criminal penalties as well. Even those individuals doing jobs “on the side” are expected to register under the act, regardless if projects are done on a full-time of part-time basis. When putting graphics on your commercial vehicle be sure to prominently display your registration number. Home improvement includes construction, installation, replacement, improvement or repairs.
