Based on an article by Fred J. Aun of TAPinto.net. Elliott Matthiesen, a 17 year old senior at Roxbury High School admitted that he sees young drivers texting on their phones while they are driving much too often.
17 year old Elliot has pursued hopes of becoming an Eagle Scout since he was 6 years old. Elliot is currently a member of Succasunna based Boy Scout Troop 163. Elliot has become involved in a big project with us here at Custom Sign Source, Succasunna, NJ.
Elliot worked hard with Tony Cretella, the owner here at Custom Sign Source to design and install 22 signs that pass on a powerful message to all drivers, specifically young drivers. The signs were installed primarily near Roxbury, NJ parks and schools. The message is clear and states: “Eyes On The Road Not Your Phone.”
Boy scout, Elliot admits drivers are “so distracted anyway.” “I see my peers constantly using their phones while driving,” Matthiesen said. “I think it’s important that my generation has to face themselves and be more aware. I focused on putting the signs by the high school because I’ve heard of so many accidents.”
Above all, Matthiesen believes this project is “a good Eagle Scout project.” It is incredibly responsible of Elliot to have the perspective he has regarding his peers. This project was very meaningful and Custom Sign Source is honored to have had the opportunity to take part in such a project that sends a great message.
Meanwhile, this project required several permissions, approvals, restrictions and guidelines due to legalities that need to be obeyed. The Roxbury Township Manager Christopher Raths and Roxbury Department of Public Works Director Richard Blood took part in this project by determining the specifications for each sign.
Mathiesen and several others… including a few fellow boy scouts, Mathiesen’s father and the owner here at Custom Sign Source worked to develop a design, drill the signs, and apply the vinyl to make this project a success!
